Large-scale projects take time to develop. Distributed solar and batteries can move faster – and put power directly in the hands of the people who use it: homes, businesses, communities, industries. Lower bills, better reliability, local jobs. We call this Customer-Owned Renewable Electrification, or CORE.

Scaling CORE means building markets that can sustain themselves – accessible financing, supportive policy, strong supply chains, organised demand. We work to create these conditions: connecting market players, supporting financing mechanisms, shaping policy frameworks that make distributed clean energy the fastest path to meeting demand.

We focus on regions ready to scale, where renewables can move faster and more affordably than fossil fuel alternatives – and where success builds momentum for the broader transition.

Goal

Transform 150 million energy customers across Asia into renewable power producers, deploying ~500 GW of distributed clean energy capacity by 2030 and delivering reliable, affordable power to over half a billion people.

The Opportunity

Critical window for Asia and the world’s energy future

Asia is home to 60% of the world’s population and consumes half the world’s electricity. Decisions made now will determine whether growth locks in more gas infrastructure – or pivots directly to clean energy at a scale that can replace the world’s largest coal fleet.

Economics favour distributed renewables

Distributed solar and batteries are now cheaper and faster to deploy than centralised fossil fuel infrastructure. When customers can access financing, CORE systems deliver immediate savings, greater reliability, and economic opportunity for households, businesses, and communities.

Untapped domestic capital

Many emerging economies have strong local lending capacity but lack the standardised products, risk frameworks, and securitisation facilities that enable financiers to invest confidently in distributed renewables at scale.

Visible benefits build momentum

When households, businesses, and communities directly control and benefit from their own clean power generation, they are better positioned to demand supportive policy and regulatory reforms to drive market growth.

How we pursue this goal

01

Organising customer power

Support constituencies to create market demand and become advocates for the policy changes that enable customer ownership and fair access to distributed clean energy.

02

Enabling finance

Work with financial institutions and funds to develop the frameworks, products, and confidence needed to unlock domestic capital for distributed renewable deployment.

03

Strengthening supply ecosystems

Support the development of skilled workforces, service industries, and supply chain capacity needed for rapid, reliable deployment at scale.

04

Advancing supportive policy

Contribute research and strategic support to establish policy settings and regulatory frameworks that enable customer-owned systems and create conditions for self-sustaining markets.
